A full season with the new model is almost complete. Has it helped midget hockey in Ontario, which it was primarily designed to do? Has it hurt the talent pool in this league? Will O/A be adopted in the B loops to help combat the loss of the lower age group or will Hockey Canada be pressured into allowing the 15's to stay? Any thouhgts?

Yeah! The OA rule won't help B teams. It is my opinion that the age of eligibility for all of Junior hockey be raised to 21. It may take a couple of years to fully assess the impact on Midget hockey but I don't think it is wise for 15 and 16 years to be playing with 19 and 20 year olds.
Major junior hockey draft should be revised to draft 16 year olds but they cannot play junior hockey until they are 17. What is the big hurry only a small fraction ever make the pros anyways.
In summary, let the guys play longer but don't bring them in so soon!
Thanks for your indulgence.

Do you think the CHL would adopt a higher draft age?

Not likely cause they think that somebody might get away and they wouldn't OWN them. The thing that fascinates me is that so many who get drafted never make the CHL and that a lot of development takes place between 15 and 17 years of age and those guys are rarely discovered. Change is difficult and I don't think they want change!

agree with the above post, most players drafted never make the CHL, therefore why not limit the draft to 5 rounds, this would allow players who might be close to making it more options to try out for different teams, this way the players who are normally drafted in the last 10 rounds would have more freedom to try out where they wish and not be "owned" by one team
