Crawford (P.noun): 1. the worst player to ever wear the "C" in the league, let alone Stratford 2. The worst ref in the Midwest, but not by that much, and has the sweetest half cage, I dare a player to wear one of those for a game

You can be a great guy but that isnt reqiured to be the captain you need leadership, guts and motivation plus you have to show your team what it takes to win and Mark Crawford can't skate....... I'm sure he is great guy but why isnt he playing for Listowel still then if he is such a great player. Dont get me wrong here mr cully but I have never seen an unskilled captain like him in the cully history. You look back on all the other captains and Crawford would be on the 3rd line.

Except maybe Schultzy wasn't he captain? He's comparable. Stratford usually likes big tough defensemen as captain that was what surprised me about Crawford.

Without being in the dressing room I can't know for sure, but I think Crawford is probably a very vocal player in the room, plus he works his ass off, which sets a good example for the young players.
I'm not really sure what a lot of people have against him.

you don't have to be a good skater to be a good leader

How is the captain choosen for a team? I have heard he is appointed, picked by the players, what is the usual selection method, and is it an enviable position really?

Al Lamont for sure is the best hitter. I believe that's the topic here but while we're talking captains, Verberne in Listowel is a great "lead by example" captain. Nothing but hard work. I also have a great deal of respect for Mark Crawford as an individual & leader. He may not possess the most skill but the work ethic is definately top notch.
